About french-treasures

For as long as I can remember, I have loved clothing and fabrics and antiques. Although these interests were part of my personal life, the first truly practical application came during the 1970s when I started working in small theatres and at the National Arts Centre in Canada. While working at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, I learned many very practical skills as well as gained insight into the magic that fabrics can create both on the stage and off.

From theatre, I moved to working in the film industry, first as a wardrobe assistant and later as a costume designer. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with many fine directors such as auteur director Jim Jarmusch and with excellent actors - Marisa Tomei, Roberto Begnini, Joe Pesci and Keanu Reeves, to name a few.

During the years that I worked in the film industry, I continued my small "side" business, buying and selling vintage fabrics, clothes, vintage accessories and some antiques. I officially registered my new business in New York City in 1989. By 1991, after completing work on the film "My Cousin Vinny," I decided to devote full-time to my own entrepreneurial effort.

French-treasures was one of the very first textile companies to launch a website. I founded the site in 1999 after having been in business in New York City for several years. This online presence ultimately freed me to travel and to move from New York City to France, since the site could be maintained from almost anywhere! The years in France were delectable. Not only did I learn to speak French, but I also had the opportunity to gain an insider's view on French lifestyle, became knowledgeable on French antiques and textiles and made many new friends.

Although I am no longer living in France, I still spend several weeks a year there which allows me time to select and buy the most interesting and unique French antique fabrics and French decorative objects. Most of the items come from the region around the Mediterranean and on west toward the Atlantic. As a part-time resident, I'm in a unique position to be able to buy fabrics and objects directly from my neighbors and other contacts in the region.

These days, there are many textile and fabric dealers on the web - but, why not buy from the original - french-treasures.com.
Note: When you access a website, please make sure you are on my site.  Over the last several months, other sites have registered names similar to french-treasures.com.  There is a site with the same name as mine, but with .net extension; there is another who has a different URL (web address), but it titles its site 'french-treasures.'  I only heard about these other sites after one of my customers made a mistake when trying to find my site from a search engine.
