background with a large-scale foreground motif of meandering
artichokes, done in muted tones. Sprinkled amongst the large
artichokes are tiny nosegays. The pattern repeat is 15.5". The
artichoke motif measures 6.75". There are two very large pieces of
this medium-weight fabric and both are in very good condition, each

century French cotton print fabric. The background is a creamy
off-white. The foreground motif is an all-over scattered floral
which includes stylized tulips, windblown peonies and roses. The

02037: This is a rarely-seen 'kelsh' or featherbed pillow cover from
the Alsace region of France. Most 'kelsh' are woven in reds and
blues of a good sturdy, yet soft cotton. This one is hand-stitched and is like a large pillowcase with a button
closure on one end as shown in the photo. The photo shows the kelsh
folded. 31" wide x 50" doubled, this piece can be used
as it is as a covering for a large cushion or could be re-worked for
